County League Rd.3

Firies 1-09 Cromane 1-08

Cromane Seniors were away to Firies on Sunday last in Round 3 of the County League. The game was played in good conditions with a strong wind. Cromane had the use of the wind in the first half and were leading at half time on a score of 1-5 to 1-1. The first score of the game was a goal by Gary McGrath for Cromane. Cromane added point from play for James Foley but Firies scored a goal against the run of play. Cromane then had a number of great chances including a goal which was to cost them dearly in the finish, Cromane had two points from Sean O’Sullivan one from play and one from a free. Cromane extended their lead in the closing stages of the first half and added two further points one from Donnacadh Walsh and one from John O’Sullivan. Firies pulled a point back just before the break to leave the half time score Cromane 1-5 Firies 1-1.
In the 2nd half Firies playing with the aid of the wind scored 2 quick frees and cut the Cromane lead to two points. Firies had another point from play which was answered by a point from John O’Sullivan for Cromane but Firies drew level after they scored a further two points one from a free and one from play. Then Firies took the lead with a point from play but the sides were again level after Cromane had a point from James Foley. Firies took the lead again with a converted free and with time running out Cromane drew level with a piont from Gary McGrath. Cromane run the resulting kick out and Sean O’Sullivan raced through the Firies defence but his shot went agonisingly wide. Everyone thought that the game would end in a draw but the referee awarded a free to Firies in injury time to give them victory by a point. The final score was Cromane 1-8 Firies 1-9.
